Una de las cosas más buenas de vivir en otro país es que todos mis amigos y mi familia quieren venir a visitarme.
Hace pocos meses mi novio estaba en Madrid el fin de semana y como no le he visto en mucho tiempo queríamos hacer tantas cosas mientras que estaba de vacaciones entonces tan pronto como ha reservado sus vuelos, comenzamos a planear nuestra semana turística.
Como tengo que trabajar durante la semana, no podía solicitar vacaciones. Sin embargo, mi novio fue ocupado con un tour del estadio de Santiago Bernabéu y bebiendo la cerveza muy barata, una de las cosas conocidas de España. Por la tarde, me fui a casa muy rápido, cambiaría la ropa e intentaríamos elegir uno de los restaurantes de Madrid para cenarnos.
La primera tarde que estábamos en Madrid juntos, nos fuimos a unos de los restaurantes americanos que están situados en todo Madrid, se llama Tommy Mel’s. Sirven uno de los mejores margaritas que he probado en mi vida y por algunas noches tienen espectáculos donde los camareros bailan y cantan a la música del año 70, como la película famosa de Grease.
Real Madrid y Atlético
Aunque no soy una fanática de futbol, quería ir a ver un partido de Real Madrid, al menos de una vez, y lo que es mejor que ver un partido entre los dos equipos de Madrid en la Supercopa de España? La atmosfera era increíble y era una de las atmosferas más divertidas mientras que ver un partido. Todas las personas eran coreando y todos los fanáticos estaban sentando juntos a pesar de sus equipos. También había algunas parejas que le gustaban equipos diferentes, discutiendo sobre los eventos del partido.
Al final, Atlético llevaban el trofeo con una victoria de 1-0 dentro de los dos primeros minutos al inicio del partido. Lo odio decir pero creo que me gustaría ir otra vez…
Sábado, ir de compras.
El sábado nos fuimos de compras. Empecemos en la Calle Fuencarral, es la calle de compras de Madrid y como tengo un piso situada en esta calle, yo había visto muchas cosas que quería comprar cuando este fin de semana llegaba. Mi pobre bolso ha rotado antes de ir a Madrid entonces mi madre me dejó llevar el suyo hasta que me cobraré del trabajo y podía comprar uno nuevo. Michael Kors era una de las tiendas de Calle Fuencarral y con mi sueldo del trabajo, me fui a comprar un bolso que necesitaría guardar por cinco años para aprovechar al máximo!
Durante la primera semana en Madrid, he visto que había un Topshop en Sol, una de las plazas más conocidas de Madrid y donde la estatua famosa los osos y el madroño está situado. PERO tanto como me encanta ir de compras allí en Inglaterra, aquí en España la tienda es muy caro y cada vez que me paso aquí, tengo que hablar conmigo mismo sobre no comprar cosas allí ;). Sin embargo, en esta ocasión, compré una pamela porque si no con el sol de España, me quema la nariz. Entonces al final, fue un día de compras con mucho éxito.
Sin embargo, la única cosa negativa de vivir en el centro de Madrid es que los pisos son muy pequeños con poco espacio para lo que cuestan mucho, decidimos quedar en un hotel por dos noches. Abajo hay una foto de mí fuera del hotel después de ir de compras:
Nos quedamos en un hotel que era muy cerca del centro pero en un sitio que no tenía la oportunidad de irme antes. El hotel se llama Vincci soho. Es un ‘boutique’ y es parte de una franquicia. La franquicia tiene más o menos cuatro hoteles en Madrid, variando en los precios, los lugares y dependiendo en sus intereses. Recomiendo por cierto que quedáis en unos de los hoteles si tengáis la oportunidad a viajar a Madrid.
El sábado, por la tarde después de ir de compras nos fuimos a cenar en un restaurante japonés cerca del hotel. Toda la decoración era rosa, incluido las sillas y las mesas y la comida era maravillosa. Comimos platos de pollo con teriyaki, un mixto de sushi y arroz con verduras. Y los más mejor es que encontré otro restaurante de ellos cerca de mi piso y hacen comida para llevar!!!
Parque de atracciones
El domingo queramos hacer algo diferente y divertido. Mis compañeros del trabajo me contaron que había un parque de atracciones, cuatro paradas en distancia en el metro de mi casa. Me darán un billete de descuento para las entradas a ser más baratas y en el último día de sus vacaciones, decidimos ir allí. El parque no abre hasta las doce por la tarde, por lo tanto, hemos sido capaces de dormir más tarde, desayunarnos y estar un poco perezoso antes de coger el metro. El parque es un poco pequeño en comparación con los de Inglaterra pero gastemos seis horas en el parque y como no había ninguna fila pudimos disfrutar las atracciones muchas veces. El parque ofrece muchos tipos de comida pero como somos ingleses típicos, comimos un kebab…

ENGLISH TRANSLATION
One of the best things about living abroad is all of your friends and family want to come and visit you.
A few weekends ago my boyfriend came to stay for the weekend and as I hadn’t seen him for a while we wanted to fit in as many things as possible whilst he was here on vacation so we began planning our tourist weekend immediately after he booked his flights.
As I have to work in the week and I couldn’t get any time off, he occupied himself with a tour of Santiango Bernabeu stadium and the cheap beer that Spain is very well known for. In the evenings I would go home, quickly get ready and we would try to decide which one of the thousands of restaurants we would go and eat in.
The first evening we went to one of the American diners that is all over the place in Madrid, it’s called Tommy Mel’s. They serve the best strawberry margaritas that I’ve ever tasted and on some night they have entertainment which includes all of the waiters dressed in 70’s clothes, singing and dancing to all of the classics like Grease.
Real Madrid v Atletico
Although I’m not a huge football fan, I had to go and watch Madrid play at least once whilst working in Madrid and what is better than watching both of the Madrid teams play each other in the final for the Spanish Super Cup? The atmosphere was unbelievable and was one of the best atmospheres that I have been around when watching a sport. Everybody was chanting and all of the fans were sat together, regardless of which team they supported. There were even couples that supported opposite teams sat together having little arguments when their team weren’t doing so well.
In the end, Atletico took the trophy with a 1-0 win and a goal within the first two minutes of the game starting. I hate to say it but I think I’ll be going to see one of the teams play again…
Saturday shopping
On the Saturday we decided to have a day full of shopping. We started off on Calle Fuencarral which is the shopping street of Madrid and as I have an apartment on the street I had already spotted a few things I wanted to buy when this weekend arrived. My poor little bag had broken just before I moved to Spain so my lovely mum had offered me one of hers until I got paid and could buy myself a new one. Of course with Michael Kors being one of the shops on Calle Fuencarral and with me finally getting paid from work I went inside and bought myself a beautiful new handbag that I will probably have to make myself keep for 5 years or more just to make good use of it!
Within the first week of being in Madrid I spotted a Topshop in Sol which is one of the main squares in Madrid and where the famous bear and fruit tree statue is located. BUT as much as I love Topshop back home, it is so expensive here and I have to talk myself out of buying something there every time. However, on this occasion, I was bought a present; a floppy hat to keep the sun off my poor sensitive nose that burns in even a teeny bit of sun. So I’d say that shopping in Madrid was a success.
However, possibly the only negative thing of living in the centre of Madrid is that the apartments aren’t very spacious for the money that you pay, so we decided to treat ourselves for a couple of nights and stay in a hotel. We stayed in a hotel that was quite close the centre but that was in an area that I hadn’t the opportunity to go to. The hotel is called Vincci soho. It’s a little boutique hotel and is part of a franchise, they have around four hotels in the Madrid area depending on your price budget, location and interests. So I definitely recommend staying in one of them if you have the opportunity to come to Madrid.
On the Saturday evening after our shopping trip we headed to a Sushi bar that was around the corner from our hotel. All of the décor was pink including the chairs and tables and the food was to die for. We had a mixture of sushi plates, chicken smothered in teriyaki sauce and rice with beef and vegetables. And even better, I found the same restaurant round the corner from my apartment and they do takeaway!!!
Parque de atracciones
On the Sunday we decided to do something different and work had told me about a theme park that was four stops ways from my house on the metro. They gave me discount vouchers for cheaper entry and so on his last day in Madrid we decided to go. The fact that the theme park didn’t open till twelve in the afternoon was possibly the best thing ever. We were able to have a lie in, go for breakfast and still have plenty of time to lazy around before we needed to get the metro. The theme park is quite small compared to the ones in England but we spent around six hours there and as there were not many queues we were able to go on the rides as many times as we wanted. The park offers so many food choices but we were typical English natives and had a kebab for lunch…
