Hallo allerseits und herzlich willkommen zu meinem ersten monatlichen Bericht! In näc
hster Zeit werde ich über meine Erfahrungen hier in Deutschland berichten, egal ob das etwas Kulturelles, Sprachliches oder sogar Seltsames ist! Es freut mich sehr, dass ihr mit mir auf meiner Reise seid, und ich hoffe, dass ich einen spannenden und interessanten Blog schreiben kann. Na, los!
November war für mich einen etwas anderen Monat als ‚normal‘ – was auch immer das heutzutage bedeutet! Der neue ‚Lockdown light‘ hat am Anfang des Monats angefangen und dies bedeutete, dass ich mich an ein langsameres Lebenstempo gewöhnen musste. Trotz der neuen Coronamaßnahmen, ist es aber mir immer noch gelungen, meine neue Heimat zu erkunden und kulturelle Erfahrungen zu sammeln.
Bevor ich jedoch darüber berichte, möchte ich mich, mein Leben und meine Arbeit hier in Deutschland mal vorstellen. Ich bin 20 Jahre alt, bin ein Student von Germanistik und Geschichte an der Universität Leeds und momentan bin ich auf meinem Auslandsjahr. Ich arbeite in einer Schule in Stuttgart als ein Fremdsprachenassistent für Englisch und in meiner Freizeit bin ich hier um die regionalen Kulturen und die deutsche Sprache besserzulernen! Vielleicht werde ich sogar a bissle auf Schwäbisch schwätzen zu kenna…
Na, wieder zurück an den Inhalt des Berichts: die Coronamaßnahmen haben ja am Anfang des Monats ein langsameres Lebenstempo mitgebracht, mit vielen Wanderungen und Fahrradtouren in der Natur. Ich habe den Bärensee und den umliegenden Wald erkundet und ich bin auch mit einer echt coolen Seilbahn gefahren, die mich hoch in das Waldfriedhofgebiet gebracht hat. Das ist ein Stück Stuttgarter Geschichte und wurde zum ersten Mal im Jahr 1914 eröffnet. Die zwei Wagen bestehen aus Teakholz und wurden in den 1920-er Jahren gebaut. Einfach wahnsinnig, dass die noch in Betrieb sind!
Da kulturelle und soziale Veranstaltungen wieder online stattfinden, habe ich mich entschieder Hochschule Osnabrück veranstaltet wurde. Ich und zwei Leeds Universität Ehemalige haben den 125 Studenten und Studentinnen beigetreten, um unsere eigene Erfahrungen als junge Briten zu beschreiben und unsere Einblicke darin geben zu können. Wir haben Fragen als ein Panel beantwortet und eine schöne, inklusive Diskussion mit den Teilnehmerinnen und Teilnehmern geführt. Es war wirklich cool, so ein konkretes Beispiel von interkultureller Verständigung zu erfahren.
Ich glaub das reicht für jetzt. Ich freue mich total auf die nächsten Monate, in den ich trotz Corona beabsichtige, viele schöne, kulturelle Erfahrungen zu sammeln und ein paar nette Menschen kennenzulernen. Dabei möchte ich so viel Deutsch wie möglich zu sprechen, mit dem Ziel von Flüssigkeit. Am Dienstag ziehe mich in eine neue WG um, wo ich mit 5 jüngeren Menschen wohnen werde. Ich kann kaum warten. English: Welcome to Stuttgart
Greetings from Stuttgart (or Stuggi, as the locals say),
Hello everybody and welcome to my first monthly blog! In the next bit of time I’ll be reporting on my experiences here in Germany, whether that’s something cultural, linguistic or even just weird! I’m really happy to have you along with me on my journey, and I hope to write an exciting and interesting blog. Here goes!
November was a somewhat different month for me than normal – whatever that means nowadays! The new ‘lockdown light‘ began at the start of the month, meaning that I had to adjust to a slower tempo of life. In spite of the new corona measures I was still able to get to know my new surroundings and gather cultural experiences.
But before I write about that, I’d like to introduce myself, my life and my work here in Germany! I’m 20 years old, a student of German and History and I’m currently on my year abroad. I’m working as a foreign language assistant for English at a school in Stuttgart, and in my free time I’m here to get to know the regional cultures and the German language better! *In thick Swabian dialect* maybe i’ll even be able to speak a little bit in Swabian, the local dialect here.
So, back to the report: at the start of the month, the corona measures brought a slower tempo of life wth them, with lots of walks and cycles in nature. I discovered the Bärensee lake and the surrounding forest and I also went on a really cool cable car that took me up into the forest cemetry area. It’s a piece of Stuttgart history and was opened for the first time in 1914. The two carraiges are made from teakwood and were built in the 1920s. It’s crazy that they’re still in use!
Because cultural and social events are back online again, I decided to look for such an event. Luckily I was emailed by a university tutor about the event ‚Brexit: Democracy at it’s limit?‘, which was put on by the Hochschule in Osnabrück. 2 Leeds alumni and I joined the 125 students from Osnabrück in order to talk about our own experiences with Brexit and give our insights as young Brits into the issue. We answered questions as a panel and led a fantastic and inclusive discusison with the participants. It was really cool to experience such a concrete example of intercultural communication and understanding.
I think that’s enough for now. I’m really looking forward to the next few months, in which I intend to gather many different cultural experiences and get to know some nice people – in spite of corona! Whilst doing so, I’d like to speak as much German as possible, with the goal of fluency. On Thursday I’m moving into a new flat share with 5 young people. I can hardly wait.
